The Pride of Waghadi – An Authentic Indian Water Sport for the Modern World.
ABOUT US
The Journey of Waterhand
The Vision
Waterhand Federation India (WFI) is dedicated to reviving the spirit of ancient Indian water sports and presenting them in a modern, competitive format. Our mission is to build a global community of athletes who embody strength, agility, and the strategic brilliance required to master the water.
The Origin
Born in Daheli Ghatanji (Yavatmal) on the banks of the Waghadi River.
The Origin Story
The roots of Waterhand lie in the heart of rural India. Born on the banks of the Waghadi River in Daheli Ghatanji (Dist. Yavatmal, Maharashtra), this sport is a tribute to the ancient combat arts where warriors used water as their battlefield.
Inspired by the flexibility of Mallakhamb and the swiftness of aquatic predators, Waterhand was envisioned as a way to test an athlete’s limits without the constraints of traditional swimming.
The Visionaries
Founded by Mr. Dhanpal Onkar and Dr. Rajnish Chamoli.
The Founders
Mr. Dhanpal Onkar: The innovator who transformed a traditional concept into a structured, technical sport.
Dr. Rajnish Chamoli: A key pioneer in establishing the federation’s academic and administrative foundation.
Together, they modernized the rules, introducing the “Standing Jump” and the “30-Second Raid,” making it a high-octane spectator sport.
